Hey Squishy!

Glad you liked the letters, I really hope one day you get to come visit these places.

After hunting goblins and finding fairyland this next letter might seem a little less interesting.

But I thought you might like to see this gravity defying place.  Once again Uncle iKaruS and I headed out before dawn to drive to the national park. We’d already identified a spot to watch the sun rise but we were not really sure where to go. Travel is all about the adventure but as we drove through the darkness large forms loomed out of the darkness. The sky just lightening enough for us to be amazed by their balanced shapes.

Soon a little bit of light started to bleed the colour back into the rock and it went from black to a warm red.

There is no trick and no metal holding the rocks high above the ground they are just balanced there. Pretty incredible right.

The spot that we’d found to see dawn was called window arch.  But we arrived slightly late and the sun had already peeked over the horizon making the stone glow softly.

Still we didn’t mind too much as we made our way not where. Everyone else was at the window arch but across to the double arch.  More and more colour filled the sky as we walked slowly as the incredible view came into view.

It was a little bit cold but we didn’t mind, we explored the arch, we skirted around the base and came to an older arch, well it might have been an arch once but the top had fallen in. Gravity it seems does eventually win over the hard rock.  I sat down on the old ocean bed and watched as more and more light filled the valley beyond.

Uncle iKarus spent his time taking photos and soon the sun was up high and the magic red colour faded. The rocks went to a more pinky hue. Still pretty magical. I managed to get him to pose for this image.

With the sun up and before the crowds arrived we set back off to see some other arches.  The first one we didn’t get close to but if you look really closely you will see other people like tiny ants. Even at seven in the morning there was a slow line building for people to take pictures!  It looked like a pretty hard walk as well.

We had to drive a fair while to get to the next set of arches. There was a place called the valley of fires which we were not allowed to go into. I think it might have been like the Goblin Valley but REALLY hot!  So I was happy to give that one a miss.

Instead we headed off to the next valley over. Now we went about 5 km and could have gone a lot more but by the time we turned around it was getting rather warm and there were a heap of people. Bus loads! And I mean busloads and busloads but still it was well worth it. Check these out!

That was a really cool arch but the best arch was this next one. We couldn’t get up close because a couple years ago a big bit of the roof fell down!  If you look at the right side there is a square bit missing on the side.  And I don’t think we want to be under it when it falls in all together. It looks so thin!

We were happy to turn around and head out for the day. I took this picture cause this was a really cute older couple and I’d like to be like them when I grow up

Well I’d better go and find the next adventure.  I’m off looking for killer whales and glaciers!

Miss you squishy!
